For those who are interested in spending additional time in Utah after Star Days, I think we need to work on planning this trip sooner rather than later.  This is their peak season, and if we wait too long, accommodations will start to fill up. I would like to get something scheduled, and we can always cancel or modify dates later.

My initial thoughts are to ride to Star Days with everyone else on Saturday the 14th - Monday the 16th. When Star Days ends, leave Lehi on Friday and head to southern Utah for Friday night (20th) through Sunday or Monday night (22nd or 23rd). Then work my way home. I may want to go home through the Black Hills because I have a place to stay there, and could ride there for a couple days.

It appears that the popular parks in Southern Utah are not real close to each other. Do we want to forego some and concentrate on others? What do you think of staying at the same place in southern Utah, and day-tripping out of there? The downside is some parks might be too far away. The upside is that we don't have to carry everything, and if it is really hot, or for any other reason, we can adjust our day trips accordingly, rather than have a destination we need to ride to for our next night's reservation. If we work on this together, we can try to incorporate more ideas and preferences (cost of motels or access to food & drinks for example).  Let me know how you want to proceed soon.

I think picking a central location and doing day trip for a few days then maybe move to another location and do the same thing would maybe help us make more national parks.

Check out the website utah.com, they have a lot of info there.

Has anyone signed up for Star Days yet?  Just looked and registration this year is $85.

I registered for Kim and I yesterday, and I think Clint did too. If you are interested in the optional dinner ride on the train, tickets are limited to 200 and there were approximately 80 left when I registered yesterday. Looks like those will go fast.

Well signed up today for Star Days and the train ride on Thursday.  Also reserved a room with 2 queen beds if anyone is interested in sharing a room.

Rick I think your idea on getting together to plan this is great.  I will not be able to get together until after April 17th due to work.  After that I will be open to meeting just about anytime.

Here is an update on the plans that four of us have made. We made reservations for 2 nights on the way out and reservations for Star Days. We also made reservations to stay in Utah for a couple of days after Star Days and are going home through the Big Horns and the Black Hills. We had to get started because places to stay in Southern Utah were filling up, and it is Rally time in the Black Hills. For anyone who wants to ride along on the way out, here is where we are staying:

Saturday, July 14 at the Comfort Inn, 101 S. Main St, Valentine, NE 402-376-3300. This is a 520 mile first day.
Sunday, July 15 at Econo Lodge, 1801 E. Cedar St., Rawlins, WY 82301, 307-328-1011. This is a 440 mile second day.
On Monday, July 16 we will have 375 miles left to get to Lehi, UT.

We can also share reservation information for after Star Days if anyone is interested. With four guys the reservations for two rooms worked out well. However, Kim is flying to Utah and we will have our own room there, so there may be an opportunity for someone to share a room at Star days. That is up to Clint, Jerry K, and Dewey. If you have questions call me or email me. If you post back here, I'll get back to you at some point.
